Since late 2021, Chris has done one drawing in the iPhone Notes app every day, sharing them to social media under the hashtag #notesArt. “#notesArt” is a selection of sketches drawn between mid-2022 and early 2023.
Similar to a mobile app, the #notesArt aesthetic is a product of the medium: minimalist and limited in scope. Chris draws with his finger on a screen the size of a 3-by-5 card, using tools that were designed more for annotating documents than making artwork. The simple nature of the tool allows Chris to focus on the essence of each piece; perhaps a strange thing to be able to do on a device known primarily for providing distraction.
